Prof.

On December 8th, 2016, Prof. Dinos Constantine Arcoumanis, the fellow of the British Royal Academy and the chairman of the academic committee at Greece Metropolitan College, visited Wuhan College and delivered a speech on the topic of Internationalisation of Higher Education in the lecture hall, room 2102. Prof. Judy Lam, the Chancellor of Wuhan College, Prof. Kecheng Liu, Executive Vice-chancellor & CTO, Prof. Dajin Wang, Pro Vice-chancellor of International Development, and Prof. Jinping Chen, Head of Department ofForeign Languages were present. More than 500 students and teachers from many disciplines attended the lecture.

Prof. Dajin Wang first introduced Prof. Dinos in terms of his rich experience of academic research and university management.

Prof. Dinos commenced his speech by introducing the concept and meaning of Educational Internationalisation – good education is worth sharing by all nations. Institutes and universities should help students broaden their horizon, extend their experience, and absorb diversified knowledge. In recent years, an increasing number of university students and graduates have chosen to study abroad for both long- and short- periods. Through the process of communicating and interacting with different teachers, colleagues and other industry professionals, not only have they known the latest trends of their profession, but also gained deep insight of the customs and culture in different places, which enable them to have a further understanding about their study fields and improve their capabilities of solving problems.

Prof. Dinos thenshared his personal experience of studying at California University in U.S. and London University in UK. Based on those stories, he demonstrated the importance of Peer Learning: the experience of studying abroad does not simply build up his capabilities of academic research, but grants him plenty of inspiration for further studies. In addition, Prof. Dinos introduced Metropolitan College, Greece, and explained the its advantages in terms of affordable educational costs, remarkable educational quality, and unique culture experience. Finally, he encouraged students to enquire further information about the summer school programs held in Metropolitan College and the master programs cooperating with City University of London, UK.

In the Q&A section, the audience had a very good discussion with Prof. Dinos about study methods for university students and preparation of studying abroad. When a first-year student asked how to find the focus of both theoretical and practical study, Prof. Dinos suggested that all university students should broadly read diversified reference books and then specify a further research question where their interest and passion lie.

On behalf of Wuhan College, Prof. Kecheng Liu expressed his sincere gratitude to Prof. Dinos at the end of the event. The lecture lasted 2 hours and received appreciation from the audience. A first-year student from CIMA comments: “It was my first time to listen a full-English speech, which polished my capability of English listening as well as oral English communication. Besides, it left me with some thoughtful ideas about planning my career development and studying abroad.”
